The quality of tableting tools is determined by several factors. Design, precise manufacturing and selection of the right material alloy are only part of it.
When it comes to optimizing tools for a specific process, choosing the right surface coating can make all the difference in terms of process reliability.
It is important to begin by analyzing the process: pressing forces, cleaning processes, chemical and physical properties of the product to be pressed – numerous parameters must be taken into account when choosing the right coating. Once potential problems such as an abrasive tablet raw material, a high adhesive tendency or high mechanical loads have been identified, we select the best coating solution for you.
For over 25 years, NOTTER has been developing and producing its own PVD coatings for finishing the surfaces of tableting tools, including many patented solutions that are not available anywhere else on the market. With this expertise, we offer you a broad range of coatings that are unique in terms of both their formulation and their microfine, virtually nonporous surface quality.
The great strength of this coating lies in its ability to successfully counteract adhesion and sticking. It also has a low coefficient of friction and offers very good protection against corrosion and wear. Chromium VI-free Plasmachrom® was NOTTER's innovative response to the ban on chromium VI compounds in production chains and the first certified biocompatible PVD coating on the market. Of course, it also complies with the REACH regulation.
This further development of the Plasmachrom®coating impresses with surface properties that prevent adhesion at the highest level. This is made possible by a newly developed, complex finishing process. Naturally, this coating also complies with the REACH regulation, is free from chrome VI and is certified biocompatible. In addition, it offers good protection against corrosion and wear.
Particularly suitable for processing highly abrasive tablet raw materials, this coating is not only biocompatible but also meets the highest requirements for protecting health and the environment from chemicals in accordance with the European REACH regulation. It provides excellent protection against corrosion and wear, and combines these properties with a very low coefficient of friction.
The certified alternative for surface coatings after the ban on chromium trioxide compounds in production chains (according to the EU Reach regulation, all transitional periods for the use of (Cr/VI) compounds end on March 1, 2023).
Coatings containing chromium reduce material adherence, increase abrasion resistance and improve the corrosion resistance of tableting tools. However, even the tiniest traces of chromium compounds have a toxic effect on the body. Plasmachrom® by NOTTER is the only PVD coating which with certified safety eliminates contamination by chromium compounds in tablet production in compliance with DIN EN ISO 10993-5:2009, thereby making it biocompatible.
